How to mount a 70-inch TV on a drywall

If you have a mount that is compatible with your television, you should check for studs behind the drywall for direct screwing of the mount on them. If there are no studs, you will have to make use of toggle bolts.

There are a few tools that you must equip yourself with for the mounting process. These are as follows:

Drill and drill bits
Screwdriver and screws or socket wrench
Leveler
Stud finder

You can then proceed with the mounting process as follows:

Make a study of various mounting kits or mounts available and choose one that is capable of holding the weight of your TV and also compatible with it. Often, the instruction manual of the TV or the manufacturer’s box will give you the weight of the television.
Opt for full-motion or set-mounts depending on how you want to position the screen. If you want to position it at any angle, full-motion studs are preferable because of their tilt and turn capability. On the other hand, if you wish to tilt the screen only upwards or downwards, set-mounts are a good idea.
Place a blanket on the floor and lay your television on it with the screen facing downwards.
Check the instruction manual on how the mounting bracket should be fixed on to the television.
Remove the bracket from the mount and align it with the holes at the rear of the TV.
Fix the bracket behind the television using the screws that come along with the mount. Avoid over tightening the screws to avoid any damage to the TV.

Check if the wall that you have decided for mounting the 70-inch TV has studs using a stud finder. To do this, keep a stud finder pressed on the wall and switch it on. Move it along the surface of the wall and watch out for the display lighting up or if it beeps.

If you observe the lighting or hear the beep, it indicates that the wall has studs behind it and the TV can be mounted on them. If not, you’ll have to opt for toggle bolts or drywall mounts.

If you cannot lay your hands on a stud finder, you can gently knock on the wall with your hand at different points. A solid sound indicates that there are studs behind the wall while a hollow sound indicates the absence of studs.

In some cases, the television mount can be fitted to just one stud.

You can go ahead with the steps given below if there are studs behind the mounting wall.

Find two studs that are next to each other in the area you want to mount the TV. You can use the stud finder to help you with this.
Mark the studs at the same level that you identified earlier as your optimum viewing height.
Check if both the markings that you made are at the same height using a leveler.
Place the mount against the drywall so that it’s level and mark the right holes that align with the studs.

It’s a good idea to align two holes for each stud so that the mount remains secure.

Position the drill bit horizontally and drill through each mark for all the holes. The diameter of the drill bit should be smaller than that of the screws provided by 1/8 inches.
Place the mount against the wall so that the holes on the wall and the mount are in line with each other.
Insert the screws provided into the drilled holes and tighten them using your hand.
Tighten the screws once again using a screwdriver to ensure that the mount is secured to the wall.

You might have to make use of a socket wrench if the mount is equipped with hex bolts in place of screws.

Lift the television and lock the mounting bracket in place on the wall
Check if there are additional screws that are intended to secure the 70-inch TV in position and tighten them.
Move backward by a few steps and check if the television is level. If not, hold it at the sides and do a rotation for the adjustment. In case you’re not able to move the TV, the screws may have to be loosened for repositioning.

The steps given below can be followed if your drywall has no studs or the studs don’t align with where you plan to mount your TV.

Place the mount on the wall against the spot that aligns with your optimum viewing height determined earlier.
Choose three holes above the mount that are equally spaced from each other to make the markings.
Mark two end-holes below the mount for the bottom support screws.
Remove the mount and check if your markings are level. If not, you’ll have to do them again.
Using a 1/4-inch drill bit, drill a hole through the wall.
Repeat the above step for each marking that you have made on the drywall.
Slide a toggle bolt of 1/4-inch size into each of the drilled holes.
Push the anchor of each bolt into the holes and snap off the long plastic ends protruding from the wall.
Put a screw that comes with the mount into each hole and turn them clockwise. This makes them tight in their toggle bolts.
Follow up with a tightening action once again using a screwdriver to secure the mount.
Raise the TV by holding it with both hands and align the hooks with their fitting position on the mount.
Release your hold from the television slowly and ensure that it doesn’t slip off the mount before you tighten any remaining bolts or screws that keep the bracket in position.

Can a 70-inch TV fit in a car?

It’s worth noting that most manufacturers recommend transporting their televisions, irrespective of the size, in the vertical orientation. You may require the assistance of a friend to help you with transportation. Depending on the size of the car, you might also need to make a few adjustments to transport the 70-inch TV.

The bed of a Ford Raptor isn’t large enough to accommodate the television along with its packaging box. However, if you have a Toyota Tacoma, your television will be a secure and snug fit in the car but you will have to make sure that it’s not the Double Cap model.

On the other hand, in a Toyota Prius, you’ll find yourself having to remove the back rows to make maximum space for your television. You’ll also most probably have to take the packaging box off and lay the 70-inch TV flat with the screen facing upward.

Can a 70-inch TV fit in an SUV?
